Big Oz Explorers

Big Oz Explorers

This amazing team of four decided to do what we all dream about doing! They took the leap of faith and sold everything they own to travel Australia!

Big Oz Explorers Family and 4x4

It was an idea they pondered for a couple of years before they decided to just do it. Like any family, they were big on making memories to share with their kids as they grow older, which was how their YouTube channel and name ‘Big Oz Explorers’ was born!

Background of the Big Oz Explorer family

Chris is a Machine Operator that recently resigned his full time position at a quarry that wasn’t too far from the family home. He has had a long career in the industry, visiting various locations up and down the coast of Queensland.

Sian is an Enrolled Nurse with the Queensland Government. Her home base is at the Logan Hospital which she has been working at for nearly 3 years. Initially Sian was on maternity leave as she travels the country for 12 months. Sian, Chris and Jayda and Jack are now travelling Australia indefinitely!

Jayda is who was only 6 years old when they kicked off on their adventure around Australia. Jayda loves the outdoors, unicorns and fishing. She is an extreme lover of Michael Jackson being able to quote every word of his songs! Jayda is currently home schooled on the road and is learning so much more than you or I could ever imagine living on the road!

But first, we’ll be chatting with them about what got them into travel, their favourite spots for adventure, and what they use their North Storm gear for. The Big Oz Explorers have travelled to some pretty crazy places and had some amazing experiences!

More about Sian and Chris

Why do you love to travel?

Sian and Chris: The Big Oz Explorers enjoy being adventurous and checking out new locations. New locations give Chris goose bumps and get him super excited! They love finding a random track off the side of the road that can lead into the unknown; a beautiful park, seaside getaway or even some extreme 4×4’ing! Sian and Chris love a challenge and trying new things.

Who is your idol, hero? Who inspires you the most?

Sian and Chris: The Big Oz Explorers were both a little stumped with this question. They agreed that inspiration can be found in the most unusual places and never seems to come from one place. The couple both enjoy meeting other adventurous people and families like themselves. An example of this is Brodie Moss, who has created a living from his lifestyle on the WA coastline which is their favourite location in Australia!

If you could travel anywhere in Australia where would you go? And why?

Sian and Chris: The Big Oz Explorers are very excited to get the WA where the dirt is red and dusty, the beaches are clean and white, and the water is crystal clear blue. To be able to see this with their own eyes is a dream which will come true in 2021!

What motivates you each and every day?

Sian and Chris: The Big Oz Explorers believe you should live every day like it’s your last! If you aren’t here tomorrow at least you have enjoyed every moment of your life! By travelling Australia, they are trying to give their kids the best start at life with experiences that some will never have… This is SO motivating for them!

What do you want to accomplish in your lifetime? Goals?

Sian and Chris: The Big Oz Explorers want to be self funded, on the road entrepreneurs living the simple life for as long as possible. They hope to create a brand from themselves which represents Australia and what it means to travel Australia full time. They hope to raise two well rounded children from this once in a lifetime experience.

What do you use your North Storm gear for?

Sian and Chris: The Big Oz Explorers like to use their waterproof backpack for beach outings and ‘wet’ locations. Due to the regular recordings they do with their YouTube channel, it’s important for them to have a bag which is safe for all the camera equipment, microphones and drones. They often take the MacBook Pro in the inside laptop holder of the bag when they know Sian will have an opportunity to edit an upcoming episode.

Here is their Big Oz review: North Storm bags – these are the BEST waterproof bags ever? YES!! We use ours when out on the beach, in a boat or near water of any kind. As we are running a YouTube channel, our camera gear is very important to us and this bag is what keeps all of our gear SAFE from the elements. The bag itself has been designed with the user in mind and the quality of the materials used is second to none. It doesn’t feel or look like a cheap, mass produced product when you receive it. Delivery time frame from North Storm was very timely considering Covid times. Thanks North Storm for the time and effort put into this awesome product! – Sian and Chris: The Big Oz Explorers
